In 1941, Johann Obermoser (born 1900) set up a small electrical shop in the town of Eferding in Upper Austria. Initially, the focus was mainly on maintaining the electricity supply amidst the turmoil of the war and expanding the electrical infrastructure. In addition to carrying out electrical installations for public facilities, industry and private customers, the range was later expanded to include everyday electrical products for sale. Subsequently, a motor winding workshop was established alongside the electrical installation business.
The motor winding workshop marked the first step towards industrial production. In the 1960s, alongside the electrical business, a facility was established for the manufacture of metal electrical installation conduits. Production was rapidly expanded to enable the company to supply Austrian consumers nationwide. In 1963, the first pilot plant for the hot-dip galvanising of earthing strips and earthing wires was set up in Eferding. To further expand the production of hot-dip galvanised steel products, Johann Obermoser acquired the site in Alkoven in 1965, which is still in operation today.
In 1987, a piece and centrifugal galvanising plant was built at the Alkoven site. In the years that followed, a wide variety of plants for processing slit strips and wires were erected.
In the years that followed, the Obermoser Group was steadily expanded with the addition of further sites. In 1998, a site was established in Chorzów, Poland, for the production of sheet metal and slit strips. Two years later, in 2000, another plant was established in Oderwitz, Germany, specialising in the manufacture of welded, stamped and bent components, as well as piece and centrifugal galvanising. In 2008, the Group also established its own sales branch in Resita, Romania. In 2018, a second plant, complete with an office building, was acquired in Alkoven, Austria. The acquisition of a further production facility in Dietersburg, Germany, in 2021 enabled the Obermoser Group to expand its lightning protection range.
Owing to steady growth, construction of a new office building and a warehouse/production hall began at the Alkoven site in 2022, and these were brought into operation in early 2023. The new building is heated in an environmentally friendly manner, primarily using waste heat generated by the hot-dip galvanising plant. In 2024, an investment was made in a new 130-tonne bar cutting line for the Alkoven site. Using state-of-the-art tooling technology, this enables hot-dip galvanised strip to be processed into bars for a wide range of applications. By achieving greater product depth within the company and carrying out further processing at the same site, transport distances are reduced, thereby cutting CO₂ emissions.
